In honour of the sole tiles used in the house, we decided to have an extravagant photoshoot for it. The textured tile coupled with a natural palette really complemented each other and enabled the materials to exist in equilibrium.

Just like how humans are not all the same, wood comes in all different shades and edges. The homeowners managed to get these treasures but the shade wasn’t right for the house. Nothing a little do-it-yourself can’t fix though! Sometimes when we aren’t satisfied with ourselves we can take steps to improve ourselves like reading. For these soon-to-be bedside tables and shelves, all it needed was some sanding, wood stain, a cloth and gloves. Or for those daredevils out there, you can omit the gloves at your risk.

Other than the wall segregating the kitchen and the living room as well as a small portion in the master bedroom, other non-structural walls were retained. By hacking the wall dividing the kitchen and the living room, we created visual porosity in the public spaces of the house and established a connection between the gathering spaces.

There is a natural sequence to the home: as you leave the house, you can grab some snacks from the kitchen, pass by the living room to bid your loved ones goodbye for the day and grab your shoes on your way out. Not to forget one last check in the mirror by the door and you’re good to go!

The house was in a good condition with its walls plastered and we love how there’s this big space in the middle of the original kitchen and dining room. Each of the rooms are well lit but this space did not have much natural light reaching it.

View from the living room window. This is how bright the living room can get when the curtains are not drawn. We were not sure if the idea of installing the projector screen in front of the window will work, but thanks to black-out curtains. The homeowners can now enjoy watching Netflix without having to worry about the sunlight shining into their faces.

The kitchen gets a beautiful wash of light that gently falls upon the space, creating soft shadows that further enhance the sense of sereneness of the space.
